From next academic session GST and demonetization to be featured in NCERT textbooks

Now school children will be educated on the economic reforms in India as NCERT plans to add GST and demonetization

From the next academic session, students of the CBSE affiliated schools will receive the lessons on two major economic reforms in India, namely, GST and demonetization and they will be included in the NCERT textbooks from the session 2018.

According to the reports from HT, Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha told the Rajya Sabha, "NCERT has decided to incorporate the contents related to GST and demonetization in existing chapters of subjects, such as economics, business studies, accountancy, and political science, while bringing out the reprint editions of their textbooks for the academic year 2018-19''.


NCERT curriculum is followed by the schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and these schools are:

  • Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs)
  • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JVs)
  • Various private schools
"Note ban is something that the textbooks don't carry at present. But this is something that students have to be taught," a senior NCERT official said.


GST in DU

Students of commerce stream in Delhi University will also be taught GST. The concept of GST will be introduced in all the curriculums of the commerce stream.

Addition of the GST in the university syllabus was approved by the academic council of the University.

In the University, GST has been added to the following commerce streams:

  • BCom (Hons)
  • BCom (Prog)
  • BA (Prog)
