"The period between August 9 and 23 will be declared 'Azadi 70, Yaad Karo Kurbani' or freedom fortnight," said UGC secretary Jaspal Sandhu.

Freedom fortnight will be observed in all UGC universities and affiliated colleges from August 9 to 23.

"AZADI 70" is the name given to the period between August 9 and 23.

"¢UGC has also released a set of activities to be followed by UGC universities and affiliated colleges. Mass national anthem singing will be performed at 11 am on August 23.

"¢UGC secretary Jaspal Sandhu said, "India will enter the 70th year of Independence on August 15. The period between August 9 and 23 will be declared 'Azadi 70, Yaad Karo Kurbani' or freedom fortnight. Students all over the country should celebrate this in an appropriate manner."

"¢Institutions have also been directed by the officials to make reports and videos of the same.

An official from the Shivaji University said "the concept is the brainchild of ministry of human resource development (MHRD) and through UGC it has directed the institutions to celebrate the Independence day for a fortnight and also arrange a series of events to cherish the spirit of freedom struggle and to influence the younger generation in patriotism."
