It looks like that there are no takers for free tuition facility provided for post-graduation students by Ranchi University. It is providing this facility to students from economically backward families who are planning to appear for competitive examinations.

This was proved by the fact that out of 2500 students, only 120 applied for 100 seats. Students need to sit for an admission test before getting coaching and 80 students were selected, leaving 20 more seats.

Coaching Coordinator SN Singh commented that due to 20 seats still vacant, university has issued another notification inviting applications by February 25, the entrance test for which will be held on February 27. They provide coaching for competitive examinations like staff selection commission, banking, railways and others. The classes have already begun.

He further stated that students selected are not attending the classes regularly and are given ultimatum that till February 27, they do not improve their attendance, their names will be struck out and new students will be enrolled from March 1.

The reason behind this low turnover has been dotted to lack of proper publicity and failure of previous coaching programmes at RU by some officials.

A student said that in the past, coaching for National Eligibility Test, SC/ST coaching and remedial classes were started by RU but all turned out to be failure, so they can't trust RU this time.

To this, an RU official said that it's the student's mentality that they can't understand the value as it's free. The common mindset is that if something is free, then the service is bad.

Another one blamed that coaching is being provided to PG students, so the turnover is low. He said that if coaching is provided to graduate students, then the turnout would be high.

M Raziunddin, pro-vice chancellor said that university is putting in efforts to advertise the programme so that students can benefit from it. That's why it will again conduct enrollment tests to benefit the deserving students.
