If the sources from the Telangana Government are to be believed, there could soon be a scheme enabling the students coming from the minority communities to get admissions into foreign universities.

The scheme would be based on Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi (AOVN) and is aimed at the students coming from Scheduled Castes. It would offer a maximum grant of Rs 10 Lakh to the applicants based on predetermined conditions. The CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has already announced a budget of Rs 25 crore for the scheme. The guidelines of the scheme would be similar to AOVN.

According to an official belonging to the MWD (Minorities Welfare Department), the file on this matter has already been circulated and is seeking CM's approval.

Talking about the guidelines, he said, "An income limit of Rs 2.5 lakh per annum has been fixed. The age limit is 35. The funds will be released in two instalments as and when the students get admission in the university. The fee of the visa will be reimbursed to the applicant once the visa and valid receipts are shown. The student will have to submit utilisation certificates."

Syed Omar Jaleel, special secretary at MWD said, "The scheme will help a lot of our students who want to but are unable to go abroad for post-graduate studies. We will make sure that the GO is released much before the fall intake. We are certain that the CM will look into the matter at the earliest,"
