Half of the session is gone and there are only five months left in the class X board exams of Punjab board and yet there are no signs of science textbooks. This year more than 69 thousand students failed the class X Science board exam but it seems that Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) did not learn a lesson from the result.
Even the mid-term exams of September are over in Schools and class X students in the government schools are yet to receive their science textbooks.
Teachers said that if students flunk the 2017-18 Science exam, the state government is going to blame them for the poor performance of the children.
Speaking to The Indian Express, a science teacher said, “Science is a difficult subject. We have to draw and explain diagrams and figures. We are now drawing everything on blackboards and dictating every single question. Is this how government can expect teachers to complete syllabus and improve results? We are even taking extra periods of other subjects because there are no science books and dictating every single question using old books takes time.”
Earlier, seeing he poor result of class X Captain Amarinder Singh said "he had directed the finance department to make available all necessary funds for undertaking urgent measures to improve the quality of education and infrastructure in government schools." But despite all the big claims, textbooks which are basic necessity have not reached the children in public schools yet.
