Nalanda University got its sunrise with their new Vice-Chancellor, Pandurang Bhatkar well known as Father of Indian Supercomputer. Designated as the new Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda University, Rajgir, Bihar; which was formerly upheld by Gopa Sabharwal. He resigned following the resignation of GeorgeYeo, former Chancellor on 24 November 2016.
Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar, 70; was born on 11th 0f October 1946, Pune. He got his education from IIT, Delhi; Sir Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur; MS University, Vadodara. He has been praised with the most civilian honours of India, the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
No end to his tremendous endeavours, he got the Centre of Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC) in the year 1988, Pune; followed by the creation of the very first indigenous supercomputer namely, Param 8,000 in the year, 1991 and Param 10,000 in the year 1998. Bhatkar as Vice-Chancellor will be effective for a period of 3years from the date of his appointment, as per Nalanda University terms [Act Sec. 11(3)].
Nalanda University known for offering chains of academic programs got established in November 2010. Being a Central University having its roots over 443acres of campus; is a very own dream project of the state’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar. Distinguished personalities from various fields, such as Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, former Foreign Minister of Singapore, George Yeo, Sugata Bose of Harvard University; have nurtured this university over a period.
