As a part of the SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan), Braille and large print books are given to the blind and visually handicapped children studying in the upper and lower primary schools throughout the country.

The numbers in the year 2014-15 are as follows-

Braille books provided "“ 19652

Large print books provided "“ 35045

Under the 'Inclusive Education for Disabled' framework, the Government provides a sum of Rs. 3,000/- to every child per annum at the Secondary stage. This is done as a part of the 'Rashtriya Madhyamil Shiksha Abhiyan Programme'. This sum can be used to fulfil diverse needs of the child.

The 'Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act of 2009' mandates the states and the Union territories to set up multiple 'decentralised grievance redressal mechanisms' to hear complaints. This should also include the SCPCR (State Commission for Protection of Child Right) or the REPA (Right to Education Protection Authority).
