For formulating the New Education Policy (NEP), a collaborative, multi-stakeholder and multi-pronged consultation process was undertaken by government including online, grassroots and national level thematic deliberations.

Recently, human resources department issued a press statement stating that one theme should be under School Education "Promotion of Languages" and one under Higher Education "Promote cultural integration through language" relates to languages out of 33 themes. In order to facilitate grassroots consultations, translation of relevant question templates were done into 12 languages namely- : Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. It was done with the help of NCERT.

In August, meeting of Central Advisory Board on Education (CABE) was held where NEP consultation process was discussed inviting views of all states and members. States were requested to submit their views and recommendations on NEP as grassroots consultation from village, block, and district to State will take place through the State government machinery.

In September six zonal meetings were held by Minister of Human Resource Development in Eastern, Central, North-Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Zones covering all States and UTs. The main agenda of these zonal meetings was to discuss issue regarding regional languages.
