Nearly 30,000 engineers of the nation will be reappearing for the tests which will help them in ensuring the validity of their degrees. They will be re-appearing because of the SC's order to suspend the degrees of the candidates who did their engineering through distance education mode.

SC, last week suspended the degrees which were awarded by the four deemed universities in engineering through distance education mode.

These universities are-- JRN Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Rajasthan, Allahabad Agricultural Institute (AAI) and Vinayaka Missionʼs Research Foundation, Tamil Nadu.

Last month, apex court issued the order under which it restrained the universities from offering any course under distance education mode without getting the prior approval from the regulating authorities.

As per a senior official, “Nearly 30,000 students are expected to be affected by the move and are likely to register for the exam which will be conducted in May or June. The candidates have time till January 15 to register for the same and this will be their only chance to retain validity of their degrees.”

The Supreme Court also directed the universities to refund the course fee and other expenditure of the students. According to the rules of AICTE engineering degrees cannot be offered through distance learning mode.
