President, Pranab Mukherjee recently observed that our system of education needs to to comply with the contemporary requirements as there is no dearth of talent in the country.
The President said that some initiatives must be taken to comply with the requirements sought these days as the country has many bright minds and world-class institutions. He was speaking during a round-table discussion on technology, education and innovation.
Regarding the education system Mukherjee said that if he can learn at the age of 80 from his grandchildren, then why we can't take little initiatives to comply with the requirements of the education system.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl, Hero MotoCorp Joint Managing Director Sunil Kant Munjal, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, DIPP Secretary Amitabh Kant and other industry honchos were present at the round-table discussion.
The President pointed out that despite India having one of the largest education infrastructures, there has not been a single Indian institution that has figured in the top 200 rankings till recently.
He also thanked Mr. Pichai and many others who had come to participate in the discussion. He said that various views which have emerged from the subjects on which everyone spoke will definitely help policy makers and administrators of the country to reach at the core point of finding the solution.
President ensured that there is no lack of talent and capacities in the country as there are world-class institutions and bright minds as recruitment at all IITs are over 100 per cent.
Pranab Mukherjee said that he used to have meetings with the vice chancellors of universities, directors of IITs and now he is meeting new generations of the people, brilliant minds which inspire confidence.
