To cope with learning standards and to increase the bar in
government schools, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to bring
English and Mathematics along with Hindi from Class 1.
The Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh said that in order to improve the standards in government schools, Himachal Pradesh government has decided to introduce English and Mathematics along with Hindi from Class 1.
He further added that such an initiative would be fruitful to bring students of government schools at par with private schools. The Himachal Pradesh government has been paying great attention to the education sector as it started 25 degree colleges and upgraded 994 schools in the last three years.
He suggested that government is fixing responsibility to teachers for poor performance of students for improving education. HP is a state with majority of the population belonging to Hindus; however other minorities have been granted same dignity and rights.
The government is taking steps aggressively to standardize education as there are over 10,000 primary schools, 1,000 secondary schools and more than 1,300 high schools. More than 8,000 schools are affiliated with board at present. Each year the board sets up 1650 centres for 5,00,000 students appearing for the exams every year.
