Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Tuesday held a mass hunger strike demanding the permanency of their job in the university.
The strike was held to raise the voice against the problems faced by the ad hoc teachers.
Teachers spoke against the discrimination that they face in the university. Ad hoc teachers also spoke about their instability in their lives and the struggle that they have to face each day.
The mass hunger strike was held outside the VC’s office gates from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm.
As on date there are about 10,000 ad hoc teachers in Delhi University. The last permanent posts that were filled in University was in the year 2013-14.
HRD ministry in a statement made a few days back said that there are 900 permanent teachers’ seats vacant in the University.
Due to lack of teachers in the University the ad hoc teachers have to take more than the allotted 16 periods per week.
One of the DUTA spokesperson said that the ad hoc teachers are allotted more examination duties than their permanent counterparts. This is more like slavery on the ad hoc teachers.
UGC
(Union Grants Commission) is closely monitoring the situation.
