In July, Madhu Joshi secured an admission in MA Sociology in DU and after submitting the form she received a shock as the university portal displayed that her admission has been canceled on her request. Madhu stated that she did not make such a request and moved to Delhi high court demanding that her admission be restored and an inquiry conducted on how this fatal mistake happened in the system.

Joshi said that her admission was confirmed and she paid the fee on July 27. She also went to her department on July 28 to fill the anti-ragging affidavit and on July 30 the online portal showed that her admission has been canceled.

She wrote about the issue to the department head Roma Chatterji and V-C Yogesh Tyagi and when she did not get any response from them, she went to the Dean Students Welfare office in North Campus on July 31.

“The DSW office forwarded the letter to the HoD, asking why there has been cancellation of admission. With no response from the department head, she was forced to move court,” said Tarun Narang, Joshiʼs lawyer.

Responding to the claim, Chatterji said, “Until I receive information, I will not be able to speak about this. I don’t know which case is being referred to.”

OSD admission, Ashutosh Bhardwaj, said that cancellation may have occurred due to  her request to shift to another college. “We give students an option to switch colleges. If the student said yes, then her admission shows canceled. She is allotted another college, where she has to take admission. To make the seat available for others, the admission shows canceled.”

Joshi said that she did not make any such request of shifting the college.
