Delhi’s government -- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) -- is preparing to send 400 teachers to the Singapore based National Institute of Education. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told the reporters that the proposal for the same has been approved by the government.
Mr. Sisodia, who also handles the education portfolio, tweeted that more than 200 teachers have already been trained by the institute. He also described the institute as one of the world’s top educators-training institute'.
According to an official from the education ministry, these are the Mentor teachers who have been chosen from the same cadre of regular teachers. The main advantage of the program will be that these teachers will be exposed to international teaching exposure which they can then transfer to the teachers they are attached to.
Commenting on the same, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "The future of any country depends upon its teachers. They shape our kids. Del govt is committed to providing best training to its teachers (sic)."
In the last three years, the Delhi government has introduced a host of schemes through which intend to boost the quality of education. These measures include:
- Official curriculum for the nursery
- Training sessions for the teachers
- Fast track appointment for the government teachers
- Mandatory parents-teachers meetings
When the AAP led government presented the budget for the 2018-19 session for the legislative assembly, they allocated 26% percent of the 53,000 crores Delhi Budget especially for the education sector and for the third consecutive year they have allocated 25% of the budget for the state’s education sector and its improvement.
