Education, especially when it comes to the government-run schools, has always been a weak spot in India's armor. And the story is no different in the national capital itself. But the government is now taking steps to change it.

In order to boost education for all, Delhi government will provide reimbursement for admissions under the economically weaker section (EWS) category from the upcoming academic session, i.e. Rs 300 more per child.

The decision was taken in the light of the fact that complaints were received from various private schools against "minimal amount" reimbursed by the government to them for allowing students under EWS category, says deputy education minister Manish Sisodia.

A senior Directorate of Education (DoE) official said that the government presently reimburses a fixed amount to private schools in lieu of taking admission of students who belong to this section. The amount has been raised to Rs 1598 from Rs 1290 after the complaints.

The government has allotted over 26,600 seats through computerized draws under the EWS category, an experiment that has been introduced by the Delhi government for the first time.
