NEW DELHI: Seeking action against the Delhi government and

authorities of three municipal corporations, an NGO on Friday moved

the Delhi high court, because they had not complied with the court's earlier

order on filling up the vacancies for teachers.

According to Social Jurist,

a Non-governmental organisation, orders had been passed in 2001 by a division

bench of the High Court, requiring the authorities to make sure that there was

zero vacancy of teachers at the beginning of every academic year.

Keeping in mind the 26,031 posts of teachers which are lying vacant at present,

the petition sought action against officials concerned for such

"deliberate and intentional disobedience" of the court's order.

"Due to deliberate omission on part of the contemnors, as many as 26,031

posts of teachers are still lying vacant in

the Delhi government and schools run by three MCDs, depriving the students of

their fundamental right to quality education," the plea said.

The plea also mentioned how such apathy on the authorities̢ part

had adversely affected the studies of more than 21 lakh students studying in

these government and MCD schools

and how their fundamental right to education was being violated.

It has been decided that the matter would most probably be

heard on October 17.
