NAGPUR: Our Constitution is a source of great pride for the country. It was on this day that it came into being. To mark the occasion, the government has decided to celebrate this day as 'The Constitution Day'. It was celebrated in Nagpur with more than 1 lakh school students gathering at the function and reciting the preamble of the Constitution of India.

The program was graced by the state Social Justice Minister Rajkumar Badole who ensured that all the arrangements for the program are in place.

This day is celebrated each year to observe the adoption of the Constitution of India (on 26thNovember 1949), which came into force on 26thJanuary 1950.

Also present were the Union minister and local MP Nitin Gadkari, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, and other ministers.

 The Indian Constitution starts with the preamble which outlines the main objectives of the Constitution. It reads:

" WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN, SOCIALIST, SECULAR, DEMOCRATIC, REPUBLIC and to secure all its citizens."

JUSTICE, social economic and political.

LIBERTY, of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship.

EQUALITY, of status and of opportunity, and to promote among them all.

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and unity and integrity of the nation.

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY, this  twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, "ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES HIS CONSTITUTION ".

Some interesting facts about the preamble:-

"·Idea of preamble was borrowed from the Constitution of US.

"·The words 'SOCIALIST', 'SECULAR' and 'UNITY' & 'INTEGRITY' were added by the 42nd Amendment in 1976.

"·Preamble is not justifiable.
