The PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) test, is all ready to make a comeback in India after being boycott and the country will participate in the same in the year 2021. The test was introduced by Organization for Economic and Cooperation Development and aims to measure the scholastic performance in mathematics, science and reading of 15-year-old students.
Boycott reason
The test is carried every three year and was boycotted by India in 2012 and 2015 on account of its miserable performance in 2009. For the poor show of the country, the then UPA government blamed out of context questions.
According to reports, HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar has decided that the country will participate in the same in 2021 and will apply next year for the exam.
Assessment to be conducted in advance
In the current, the government has requested OECD to conduct an assessment similar to PISA for the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalayas annually. These assessments are going to start from next year.
"This will help students in preparing and familiarizing themselves with the test which is scheduled for 2021" according to report. In December, last year OECD was contacted by the HRD ministry and the former has agreed to the request.
"During the video conference with OECD in December last year we realized that we had missed the application deadline for the test in 2018 and will participate in 2021" said the official.
