In its latest notice, the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) has said that it will not set up board exams due in 2020 entirely on the NCERT syllabus but has released its syllabus for the upcoming exams.
The board said that it prescribes the NCERT books for the classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 but it has been brought to their notice that “in these (NCERT) books, at certain places, it is mentioned that particular part of the book is “not for the purpose of examination or assessment”. Similar instructions are given for the information/ question provided in boxes also.” CBSE clarified that these instructions are not applicable for classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 exams.
The board said, “examination and assessment will be done based on the syllabus provided by the CBSE and not as given in the NCERT books”. CBSE has released the syllabus for classes 10 and 12 on its official website.
Among the new initiative, CBSE has also decided to conduct two exams for Math. The current mathematics is called Mathematics-Standard and the easier version of the same is called Mathematics-Basic and is for the students who are weak in mathematics and do not want to pursue the subject during their higher studies.
