City level winners of 'Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2010-11' from South Zone (Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh) felicitated in Bangalore
Winning candidates of English and Kannada essay competition, shortlisted from across 15 cities in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in Southern India, felicitated in Bangalore
Kannada edition, launched this year, saw enthusiastic participation from across 12 cities in Karnataka by more than 1.25 lakh students.
Part of the annual national level school essay competition organized by the Tata Group in 8 languages, where nearly 2 million students across 150 cities have participated from nearly 5,000 schools
The Tata Group recognized the city level winners, from the South Zone (Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh), of the 5th annual 'Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2010-11', today, at Wings House, Bangalore. The winners were selected from a competitive pool of students through 15 city level competitions conducted in 5 cities for English and 12 cities for Kannada.
The English edition of the essay competition was held across Bangalore, Mangalore, Vijayawada, Vizag and Hyderabad with 226 schools participating while the Kannada edition which was introduced for the first time this year saw enthusiastic participation from 400 schools across Bangalore, Hubli -Dharward, Mysore, Gulbarga, Belgaum, Mangalore/ Udupi, Davangere, Bellary, Shimoga, Tumkur, Bijapur and Raichur. Both the editions attracted a total of nearly 2.5 lakh students.
The awards ceremony was held at Wings House in Bangalore and the chief guest at the event, renowned scholar and academician Professor N.S. Ramaswamy, (Padma Bhushna, National Professor & Chief Mentor - IIBS and Former Founder Director of IIM Bangalore) awarded trophies and gift certificates to the winners. The winning essays at the city level will be further judged by a prominent jury for national level recognition.
The theme for the 2010-11 edition of the essay competition was 'Poverty reduction'. The essay entries received from the enthusiastic participants featured thought provoking and inspiring ideas which clearly showcased the vision, compassion and conviction of today's young Indians.

The Tata Building India School Essay Competition is one of the key initiatives undertaken by the Tata group of companies to motivate the youth of India towards thinking about nation building. Started in 2006 with 6 cities and 1 lakh students in English language, the competition has grown manifold to become India's largest essay competition touching almost 2 million students across 8 languages in 2010-11.
