With a motive to increase awareness and sensitize the students about the issue of disability and people dealing with these disabilities, Human Resources Development Ministry has decided to introduce chapters in school curriculum.
According to an official statement, educational institutes will be made accessible to the disabled in a planned and phased manner. This announcement was made by HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar. He was present on a biker's rally organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The main motive of this rally was to increase awareness about the issue of disability. Many leading biker groups from the city and across the nation participated for this cause. The rally was flagged off by HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar and started from India Gate.
On working for raising awareness for this issue, Javadekar told, "The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) is running an Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) for creating universal accessibility in built environment, public transportation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) eco-system. The campaign was initially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 3 last year on the occasion of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. The ministry is making efforts to make the campaign a mass movement by involving citizens and sensitising the society towards disability and the need for accessibility."
This rally which raised awareness for such a sensitive cause witnessed presence and of various celebrities like Vivek Oberoi. He is the ambassador of the Accessible India Campaign and during the event he praised the indomitable spirit of persons with disabilities.
