Central Board of Education (CBSE) has postponed the National Eligibility Test (NET) 2016, in Kashmir's capital, Srinagar. This step was taken because of the curfew conditions that were prevailing after Burhan Wani, a poster boy for the terror group Hizbul Mujahideen was killed by the forces in an encounter.
The tension in the valley continues to rise as the shutdown call by the separatists; the authorities have imposed curfew in Pulwama district and other areas in south Kashmir. The riots should not spread as wildfire, therefore, mobile - internet and train services have been suspended. The holy Amarnath yatra has also been suspended due to these circumstances. Protests have been called by the separatists but the army and the forces mention this as a 'blow to militancy and a major success for the security forces'.
According to CBSE, an examination was supposed to be conducted on July 10, 2016. But due to the unusual circumstances, the exam was postponed. According to the officials, 10,255 candidates were registered for the examination who was supposed to sit for the in 16 examination centers in Srinagar. Next date for examination will be announced only after the situation is under control. The central board issued a press release in postponing the examination. "All the candidates appearing in UGC-NET scheduled to be held on July 10, 2016, at Srinagar city are informed that due to unavoidable circumstances, this examination is being postponed," CBSE press release mentioned.
