Last month, CBSE board sent a warning to all the
institutions who through non-conventional means allow students to sit for board
exams in exchange of a whopping amount or any other thing. It is illegal by all
means. Board has suggested that it will be closely monitoring such schools that
allegedly provide admissions to students by placing the tag of CBSE and get
them enrolled creating a problem for parents.
CBSE also stated that it might conduct surprise inspection of students to verify those who belong to non-affiliated school and are sponsored by schools. Principals need to send a list of all regular students from classes IX to XII to CBSE. In case of CBSE finding out unauthorized candidates, strict action will be taken against such schools.
To make its complex process of granting affiliation friendly, CBSE has made it online. This would also increase transparency. The complex structure includes provisional affiliation, and then middle year's syllabus approval, then getting the school registered for STD X/ XII board exams. The dilemma of parents start as CBSE provides affiliation at VIII level but schools give out admissions using board's tag at primary level.
Parents want to get their kids admitted to CBSE schools as their demand is increasing. About 1500 schools in city and almost 40 are affiliated to CBSE. It also allows schools to increase their fees with CBSE tag although the costs are same for operating a school.
Certain schools who fail to get affiliation from CBSE think of other ways to make money. They do favors to students by allowing them to sit for boards at a hefty charge. Some also failed to get the affiliation due to certain land requirement criteria fixed by CBSE.
It is a challenge for schools to get affiliated to CBSE as it has different land requirements for schools both in urban and rural areas. There were complaints about a group who transferred their students to CBSE schools in STD IX.
Parents can do one thing i.e. to check the affiliation number of schools at CBSE's website. Even a school with different branches, each branch will have an affiliation number.
Schools these days use word "'CBSE pattern" at their gates, prospectus but parents need to understand there is no such thing. It is only teaching methodology. Schools should be refrained from using CBSE at their campus if they are not affiliated to it.
