As a part of ongoing reforms in the education system of India, CBSE's class X board exams will be reintroduced, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.
At present it is optional for the CBSE students to choose either board exams or CBSE's board exams. Also, it has been decided to conduct the examinations in class V and VII and students who will fail the term end exams will be detained in the same class, Prakash Javadekar told reporters.
However, the failed students will be provided with an opportunity to improve as a result they will be given an additional chance to appear in the examinations before they are detained in the same class.
Under the existing system, students up to class VIII are promoted to the next class irrespective of their performance.
The minister said that the move of the central government had been approved by the 25 states so far.
