The cabinet is all set to discuss the new IIT bill after a war like situation between HRD ministry and PMO as they hope to discuss and resolve many contentious issues.

According to the sources the proposed legislation will be put up for the discussion in Cabinet. Following are the main points of the proposed bill:

  • It includes provisions for the SC, ST and OBC students.
  • Report says that the new bill is silent on reservation faculty and DoPT instructions will apply.
  • The same is the case with other institutions as far as reservation of faculty is concerned.

Reports say that IIMs hiring process for faculty is not in compliance with the rules set up by government of India. The total board strength of IIM board is 14 and it is proposed to include 5 alumni as members of board out of total 14.

The organizational structure of these institutes is very different from that of the IITs as these institutes do not depend on government for any type of financial aid or support.

HRD ministry is going to try its luck second time by forwarding the IIM bill to the cabinet. Earlier, when the bill was forwarded the ministry was asked to some changes to provisions suggested.
