The ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) has decided to roll out a revised curriculum for the CA course starting from the year 2016. According to the president of ICAI, K Raghu, these changes would be made based on the recent developments seen in the global economy.

Addressing a press conference after laying the foundation of ICAI's Kannur branch, he said that "There are many new areas of accountancy in the changed economy and we have taken all these things into consideration in reworking on the curriculum,"

This change in the curriculum comes after a gap of 10 years. The initial draft for the proposed change has already been approved.

ICAI has earned accolades at a global stage and the CAs of Indian origins are in much demand all over the globe. He further added "Since India is fast emerging in many areas, especially in sectors like medical tourism, there is vast opportunity here as well and in last year's campus recruitment the passed out students got very good offer."

He remarked that the ICAI offered CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) course is also gaining popularity among the students in the country. According to him, chartered accountancy has emerged as one of the most favoured professional courses in the country which provides exciting career opportunities to the students.

At present, as many as 8.52 lakh students are pursuing this course in different parts of the country. Of the 10,000 CA students in Kerala, close to 1050 are from Kannur.

The newly set up Kannur branch would soon get a permanent set up and move out from a rented premise within the first year of its operations.
