Brickwork Finance Academy (BFA) www.bfa-india.org inaugurated the first batch of its flagship 9-month Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Finance at their facility on Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore today. Welcoming the students, Vivek Kulkarni, President of BFA said, "There are many MBA colleges offering a degree in finance. Though students graduate with an advanced degree, they would have studied only a few select courses in finance. BFA's PGP is unique, comprehensive and designed with careers in the BFSI sector in mind."
Delivering the inaugural address, R K Nair, Member IRDA said, "This program is well-designed with highly qualified professors and experts bringing in their valuable experience and insights in finance providing students an opportunity to learn the current trends and equip themselves for their career in financial services. I wish the entire team at BFA the very best."
The Presidential address was given by S Raman, Chairman and Managing Director, Canara Bank, Bangalore. He said "With its experience in the areas of credit ratings and financial services, it's great to know that Brickwork is launching an industry focused Post Graduate Program in Finance. Such training programs would be of great value addition to people interested in pursuing a career in the BFSI sector at large. I wish BFA all the very best in making this iconic program a great success."
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. M H Bala Subrahmanya, Professor and Chairman, Department of Management Studies, IISc, Bangalore said, "Knowing Vivek for many years and his immense work in the financial sector, I'm indeed happy to see his continuing contribution to the finance fraternity through BFA. I'm sure his vast experience and passion for learning and research will influence the BFA students and equip them better to face challenges in their career."
BFA's comprehensive and practical skills-based approach in delivering the program will play a pivotal role in increasing candidate appeal in recruitment processes for leading IT companies in BFSI, financial institutions, such as investment banks, mutual funds, insurance companies etc. "In the current financial environment, programs such as BFA's PGP in Finance with focus on financial literacy and knowledge enhancement will go long ways in understanding issues and addressing them effectively." said Prof. Pankaj Chandra, Director, IIMB. "It will certainly provide great value to students by strengthening their fundamentals and inculcate analytical thinking that is imperative in today's financial ecosystem. "
Prof. S Sadagopan, Founder Director, International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore shared his views via an email. He said, "One of the biggest issues in Indian academics today is making graduates job-ready and improve their employability. With the backing of a large Indian corporate, BFA's PGP is designed to do just that. Industry oriented courses such as this is what India needs today given the global exposure that our workforce faces."
The first batch of 35 participants has an impressive profile.Half the class has an average professional work experience of 7 years. Over 65 percent of the students already have an MBA from other B-Schools and over 30 percent of them are engineers. The program has participation from a number of IT and Finance professionals. A large US based financial services MNChas sponsored a few of its employees for the program. A majority of the participants are looking forward to capitalize on the opportunity for growth in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, in both domestic and international markets.
