National design competition inviting innovative, ergonomic and world class design in the public amenities space

-- Top 3 winners to be awarded with INR 1 lakh, INR 50,000 and INR 30,000 respectively

Bosch Power Tools along with the National Institute of Design (NID), today, announced the launch of its socially relevant industrial design competition called "India Changers- Designers at work for a better India", for students with an engineering, design or art background. The competition is based on the theme of social innovation, wherein participants are urged to create world class designs pertaining to public amenities such as signage, rain shelter, drinking water fountains, public seating and others. 'India Changers' will reach out to design institutes present across the country, thereby giving students an opportunity to create state-of-the-art designs that have the potential to be implemented across various cities, towns and villages of India. The winners will be announced on 7 November 2012 and will be awarded with cash prizes of INR 1 lakh, INR 50,000 & INR 30,000 respectively.

The "India Changers- Designers at work for a better India" initiative is the first of its kind from Bosch Power Tools in India to promote and recognize industrial design that will help provide innovative and socially relevant solutions to better lives. Judging the creations will be a panel of renowned design experts, namely - Mr. Michael Foley of Foley Designs; Mr. Vijay Pandey-Vice President, Bosch Power Tools division, India; Mr. Satish Gokhale of Design Directions and Mr. Vijai Singh Katiyar, Activity Chairperson, Professional Educational Programmes, NID and Senior Designer. 

The registrations will be open from September 25th 2012 until October 31st 2012 and entries can be sent to www.indiachangers.com . The nominations will be evaluated based on the conceptual strength of idea, visual quality of submission and details related to the execution of proposed concept, all of which will carry a weightage of 30%. 10% weightage will be given to concept note. The evaluation will result in top ten poster entries being selected, out of which, top three winners will be adjudged.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Vijay Pandey-Vice President, Bosch Power Tools Division, India said, "We are pleased to associate with NID to launch the "India Changers- Designers at work for better India. By encouraging talent from all parts of India, Bosch Power Tools is fuelling the imagination of an enormous pool of young innovators who have the caliber to challenge the conventional and create something unique. The Challenge will recognize edgy and practical designs that have the power to provide solutions to some of the country's most pressing issues". He added, "We are positive that the response to the competition will be outstanding and we look forward to socially relevant, ergonomic designs from the student fraternity".

The initiative is being seen as a positive encouragement to innovative industrial design projects that can influence the quality of life.
