After 11 long years the curtains came down and the 148 students of IIIT Amethi campus were shifted to Allahabad campus which makes it the shutdown of third major project since Modi Government came into power at the center. Before this two other projects have met the similar fate and they were:
1.Mega Food Park
2.Hindustan Paper Mill
Both the projects were proposed by the Vice-President of Congress party- Rahul Gandhi.
Director IIIT-Allahabad G C Nandi said on Wednesday "The students of Rajiv Gandhi IIIT have been shifted to the Allahabad campus and the Amethi campus will be transferred to the Ambedkar University, Lucknow, as per government decision."
This decision was taken in May when the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani announced that the IIIT Amethi will be shut down and satellite institute of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, will be opened in its place.
Students will be able to continue their studies as usual but the employees of IIIT are very unsatisfied as they said that no arrangements have been made for them. If this remains the case then they may launch an agitation from August 12.
All this is being said to be a political vendetta since Rahul raised the cancellation of Shaktiman Mega Food Park in Amethi in Lok Sabha.
