NEET aspirants may get a ray of hope from the Allahabad High Court after its latest order

The Allahabad High Court recently heard a petition seeking rolling back of the NEET exam age and attempt limit. Scheduled to the held on 7th May, the NEET 2017 exam has an upper age limit of 25 years.

In this regard, the honourable High Court has asked for a response from the MCI (Medical Council of India), the CBSE and the Central Government. The 3 parties have been given time till 20th February and need to tell the court what procedure did they adopt to come up with this age limit.

The Lucknow bench of the High Court, being presided over by Justices Sanjay Harkauli and Amreshwar Pratap Sahi passed this order while responding to the write petition filed before it.

The petitioners stated that the upper age limit set for the NEET exam has not been set after taking into consideration any prescribed procedure under the MCI Act. The petitioners have also submitted that these age restrictions aren’t in line with the law and must be struck down by the court

The court’s order read, "In view of the aforsaid documents that have been placed before the Court, the stand of the Medical Council of India as well as that of the Union government has to be brought on record by way of an affidavit as to what was the procedure adopted for the purpose of fixing the upper age limit of 25 years for NEET examination."

The court has termed it as an urgent matter and therefore given only time will 20th February to the parties to respond. The court said that since the exam’s date is approaching, the matter must be resolved as soon as possible.
