MUMBAI: All education boards of the country under the Ministry of HRD shall devise ways to incorporate homogeneity, including examination schedules and result declaration dates.

Four committees have been set up to create a uniform playground for all students. Most of the students from all boards compete in national level entrance examinations. The committees shall look into having a common core syllabus, exam patterns, teacher training modules, examination schedules and dealing with unfair means. The committee also intends to have all boards declare their results by 31-May, to ensure that no student falls out of the race to avail a seat at a national institution.

The HRD Ministry officials met members of the Council of Boards of School Education, a governing body consisting of over 55 education boards, on October 28. The 4 committees that have been set up consist

of chairmen from different boards, and members of the National Council of Educational Research and Training(NCERT). They expected to work together to submit a report by 31 December.

YSK Sheshu Kumar, Joint secretary of MHRD and chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education was of the opinion that common curriculum shall enable students across all boards to compete on a level playing field.

One of the committees shall work out means to devise a common exam pattern for all boards. The intent is to ensure that equal weightage is given to all elements in the exam, to avoid any discrepancy in mark distribution across boards. Another committee shall look at building scope for teacher training. Gangadhar Mhamane, chairperson, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education was of the opinion that knowledge exchange is needed to tackle unfair practices during examinations.
