On Friday, dean of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Vikas Bhatia said that
from this year onwards institute will start admitting post graduate students
and they will be selected via entrance tests organized by AIIMS New Delhi.
In order to start two students would be admitted in non-clinical subjects of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, forensic medicine, microbiology and community medicine in the session starting from July, confirmed Bhatia. Also, two students in each subject would be selected for the session starting in January.
The institute is expanding slowly said Bhatia as the institute's first batch which was admitted in 2012 would now complete their course in November. Their internship would start from January 2017.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar was established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Under this scheme six new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established at, Raipur, Bhopal, Patna, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar and Rishikesh besides the AIIMS at New Delhi.
On July 15, 2003, the then Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajapayee laid the foundation stone of this institute in Bhubaneswar with the vision of establishing an excellent centre for medical education alongwith training, healthcare and commitment to serve the underserved sections.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Ordinance was passed on 16th July, 2012 in order to establish the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar as an autonomous institution.
