CHANDIGARH: The Miri Piri Medical College, which is being run by the SGPC at Shahabad (Kurukshetra), will see admissions starting from the academic year of 2018.

The project is supposed to be running at an estimated cost of more than 100 crores. Currently, there are 60 beds at the hospital in Miri Piri and they would soon be increased to 300.

Anil Vij, the Health Minister of Haryana revealed that the SGPC had put the construction work on hold as the issue lay unresolved for over ten years. However Mr. Vij, in January, assured Mr. Avtar Singh Makkar, President of SGPC, regarding the construction.

Raghujit Singh Virk, senior vice-president, SGPC, accompanied by  Avtar Singh, secretary of the SGPC and Dr. Sandeep Inder Singh, in-charge of Miri Piri College expressed heartfelt gratitude to the state health minister, on Friday.

"Vij has kept the word he gave on the Miri Piri Medical College in January, 2016, and members of the SGPC came to thank him. The foundation stone of the college was laid in 2006 but the previous Congress Government did not issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the committee for running the medical college", Mr. Virk said.

With a view to strengthen the health network in Haryana, Mr. Vij had started a campaign and numerous organizations had been encouraged to come up with medical colleges, proclaimed Mr. Virk. They have been reassured by Mr. Virk that all the formalities required, in order to get the medical college started, would be fulfilled on time.

The delegation was informed by Mr. Vij that the state government̢s target included setting up medical colleges in every district of Haryana. He also revealed that as of now, the procedure for establishing medical colleges in Bhiwani, Jind, Jhajjar, Sirsa and Panchkula has been started.
