In order to streamline the admission process in Delhi-government schools for class VI from municipal schools, the Delhi government has decided to hand over admission slips to the students.
As a part of the "planned admissions" process, children who studied in municipal schools till Class V will be admitted to government schools every year. A statement from the government states that, after getting data from MCDs, admission will be made online and then students will be handed over the admission slips. For the first time, there won’t be queues any longer, for parents outside these government schools, seeking admission to Class VI.
According to Education minister Manish Sisodia, after holding a meeting with the officials of DoE and the commissioner of municipal bodies on Wednesday, the admission slips for the next academic session, will be handed over during the current academic session between March 15 to April 1, 2017 by principals and teachers of government schools to children studying in Class V. Also, the education officials of MCDs have been asked to organize camps in their schools during summer holidays and encourage reading habits among children.
Atishi Marlena, advisor to the minister, said that parents used to take their children to the schools, fill the admission form and get their wards admitted. Mostly they are turned away and hence there is delay in the admission. Since the data exists with the MCD already, they will directly generate separate admission slips and parents will just have to sign. A welcome meeting will be conducted at the school at the beginning of the session to make the children feel comfortable.
