Earlier, in the month of March, HRD ministry issued a notification which made the possession of Aadhaar card compulsory for the students and the rule is applicable across the country except for the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya.
In the process to register all the school children under the Aadhaar card scheme, a total of 4.4 lakh ghost students were recognized from the schools in the states Jharkhand, Manipur and Andhra Pradesh. Under the mid-day meal scheme government provides free lunch to students of class 1 to 8 on all working days.
According to the reports " data revealed that from the total enrollment of 13.16 crore children, 10.03 crore children availed midday meal on an average basis in 11.50 lakh schools during 2015-16 and the linking of the aadhaar card with the mid-day meal scheme would exclude beneficiaries from the child nutrition scheme."
According to the reports many schools in the states Jharkhand, Manipur and Andhra Pradesh have been showing non-existent students on their rolls.
Status of children state wise
Andhra Pradesh: According to the reports, the state had 2.1 lakh fake students.
Jarkhand: According to the reports, 2.2 lakh fake students have been deleted from the schools.
Manipur: The state has 1500 fake students which have been deleted.
According to the other reports, only 30 percent of the 11 crore students, which are enrolled in the class 1 to 8 in government schools have Aadhaar card.
