The mode of SSC CGL has been changed from this year as it has shifted from OMR based paper to computer based test. But this change should not be of concern for students as most of the papers in the country are now online and students are very familiar with the pattern.

Other than this there are no significant changes in the syllabus and pattern. The syllabus is still the same and now the exam will constitute of 100 questions instead of 200 for which aspirants will be given 75 minutes instead of 120 minutes. Effectively the time per question along with the weightage has increased. Now each question will carry two marks and the overall marks of the exam remains the same.

Below are few points to keep in mind:

  • It is crucial to read all the instructions carefully before starting the test. Aspirants may note important points to be referred to later, when in doubt.
  • Practice at least 10 full-length practice tests before appearing for the actual exam to accustom with computer-based tests and reduce last-minute anxiety. There are many websites that provide such practice tests for free.
  • Aspirants should first answer the questions they are most confident about. The questions they are not sure of should be 'marked for review' and attempted later. General awareness questions can be attempted quickly because there is nothing you need to calculate. Either you know the answer or you don't. Remember that this exam is all about speed and accuracy.

The biggest advantage of SSC is that there is no sectional cut off for the exam.
