PM Narendra Modi has recently created a Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) to look after the development of educational institutes in several states. Mr. Modi said that Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) school will be opening in each of the 62 districts on 23rd November and a budget of Rs 2811 Crore has been allocated for this project.
The major states where these JNVs are being opened are Chhattisgarh (11), Gujarat (8), New Delhi (7), Uttar Pradesh (5) and Jammu & Kashmir (5). Several other states are also getting JNVs. These schools would help to bring quality education facilities to students of rural areas of these states and be governed by the Central Government. Thus the rural youth would not be dependent on urban areas to avail good school education.
Report also states that the purpose of these schools is to provide good and modern education to deserving students of rural areas and nearly 35000 children will be benefited through JNVs. They would also generate employment for roughly 2914 persons and would provide residential campuses for its staff and students. The JNVs are proposed to be co-ed, with boys and girls having equal opportunity of getting education. Seats are reserved for SC and ST on the basis of population of that particular district along with a one third reservation for girls. As of now there are total 598 JNVs in 576 districts, of which 591 are functioning properly. 75% seats of these JNVs are filled by rural children so they can get benefits of the facilities given by these schools.
