Each year, the results of IIT JEE throw up some interesting numbers. Apart from changing the life of the selected students, these results also highlight the education pattern in the country. The pattern highlighted in this year's JEE results is no less astonishing.

The top 100 rankers, who would get whatever course they choose in whichever IIT they choose, are always part of an elite group. This year's results show that 50 out of the top 100 students in the IIT JEE results belong to the CBSE board. The second most students are from Telangana state board that has sent 21 students to the IITs in the top 100 rankers.

The third in the list of boards was the state board of Maharashtra which had 7 students in the top 100. Additionally, the board which sent the most number of students in the entire JEE merit list was CBSE, followed by Telangana and Maharashtra.

According to a JEE official, while CBSE has remained the top board for a number of years, the rankings below CBSE keep changing each year. In the year 2013, 80% of the selected students belonged to only three boards, viz. CBSE and the Punjab and Andhra Pradesh state boards. CBSE, state boards of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh were the top five boards in 2014.
