The Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Biological Engineering, Shobhit University (SU) , Meerut is organizing 2-days National Seminar-cum-Workshop on Biomedical Research and Clinical Applications of Radioisotopes from 31st March-1st April, 2012 under the auspices of the Indian College of Nuclear Medicine (an academic wing of the Society of Nuclear Medicine-India) . The LLRM Medical College and the Meerut Scan Centre have also joined hands with SU in organizing this Nuclear Medicine meeting. Prof. DV Rai, Dean, Faculty of Biological Engineering at SU is the Convener for this National Event. Prof. Baljinder Singh (from the department of Nuclear Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh) who is the Secretary General of the Indian College of Nuclear Medicine (ICNM) is the Co-ordinator of this meeting. Prof. SS Gill who is a world renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon and is the Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid Medical University of Government of Panjab is the Chief Guest for this Conference. Prof. SS Gill has very keen interest in the speciality of Nuclear Medicine and his university is the first state Government University to have taken initiative to set up an advanced Cancer Centre at Faridkot with the latest equipment of radiation treatment (LINAC, IGRT, SBRT) along with the latest gamma camera (SPECT/CT) and PET/CT and Cyclotron facility. Prof. PK Pradhan, President of the Society of Nuclear Medicine-Indian is also attending this conference.

The scientific deliberations of this conference will be delivered by Nuclear Medicine experts coming from academic and research Institutes from all over the country. Prof. Baljinder Singh will give a brief introduction about the Specialty of Nuclear Medicine and its Research and clinical applications. Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Director, Human Resource Development (HRD), DRDO. Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India will talk about the role of Nuclear Medicine in Drug Development and is expert in this areas. Dr. Anil Mishra, Joint Director PET radiopharmacy and Cyclotron is a world famous radiochemist is trained in Europe and will give insights in to the various radiopharmceuticals which are used in the clinical practice of Nuclear Medicine both in diagnosis and therapy. Prof. D V Rai (Convener of the Conference) and Dr. Sarika (from PGI-Chandigarh) will talk about the Instrumentation - MRI and Gamma Cameras respectively.

In the afternoon clinical session on the first day of the conference, we have speakers namely Prof. PK Pradhan (will speak on Nuclear Cardiology), Prof. Anshurajneesh Sharma from Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital Mumbai will speak on Nuclear Medicine in Oncology and Skeletal Imaging. Prof. Gaurav Malhotra (from Radiation Medicine Centre, BARC, Mumbai) will talk on the Nuclear Medicine in thyroid Imaging and also on the role of Nuclear Medicine in Gastroenterological disorders. Prof. Ramesh Asopa who is the head of Nuclear Medicine at RMC, BARC, Mumbai will speak on the Clinical applications of Nuclear Medicine in Nephro-Urological diseases. Dr. Rajneesh Sharma Head of the PET centre at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS, DRDO, Delhi) will give an invited talk on Nuclear Medicine in Neurology-Current Developments and future directions.

The 2nd day of the conference includes invited talks on Correlative imaging will be given by Dr. Vineet Nanda. Dr. Jayanand from SU will speak on Nuclear Medicine -SPECT - in Epilepsy. Dr. Reena Dhamija from Meerut will brief the audience about the Clinical Nuclear Medicine activity at Meerut. The other important on this day are on Radioactive waste disposal (By Dr. Kheruka from SGPGIMS, Lucknow) and Radiation safety in Nuclear Medicine by Dr. Dhanaji Mohite who is from IBA Cyclotron Division, Gurgaon, Delhi. Towards the end of the conference there shall be practical demonstrations of the Nuclear Medicine procedures by Dr. Reena Dhamjia at the Meerut Scan Centre.
