The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have changed their syllabus from NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) to a curriculum prescribed by the Board for classes from Pre-school to 8th standard. This will be implemented immediately from the academic year 2017-18.

Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of CISCE, said that until now only 9th to 12th classes were prescribed syllabus by the board and that this move would improve the quality of education while also helping students who are taking up ICSE examinations in a better way since the students will be able to prepare much before their board examinations.

This new curriculum will be released on November 23 in Lucknow at the 59th annual conference of ASISC‘s (Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate). Mr. Arathoon further announced that there is also good news for the educationists who are planning to start CISCE affiliated schools. Now the land requirement for the schools to get affiliation is only 2000 square meters across the country, from the earlier 4000 sq.mt outside metropolitan cities and 2000 sq.mt in metros.

He added that though the land area has been reduced, the infrastructure and other facilities criteria will have to be met with. This change, he said, is due to the fact that to start a school it is very difficult to acquire 4000 sq.mt of land.
