The second edition of the spelling bee competition that will happen in Nagaland later in September will be jointly held by Fountain Club Kohima and SCERT. The competition has been scheduled to happen on the 25th to the 27th of September. The venue for the event has been selected as the Capital convention Centre in Kohima.
This is the second time that this competition will take place. This year the organizers have decided to add two more alternatives to the event. Now along with the spelling competition the students will be able to apply for the elocution and the extempore competitions. This is also the 50th year of statehood in Nagaland.
A press conference was held at the Japfu Hotel in Kohima. Vipopal Kintso who is the head advisor of the fountain club said that the club was an organization that had nothing to do with profit making. He said that the club was formed by people with the same kind of thinking. The club constitutes of people who have worked as student leaders at some point or the other. The major objective of the organization was to improve the quality of education through these competitions.
The competition is open to all students. All the schools across all the districts are applicable to apply. Every school can send two students for the spelling competition and one student each for the elocution and the extempore competition. Students from class 8 to 12 can participate in the event.
The spelling competition will be done in two parts. On 25th the preliminary rounds will happen where 32 candidates will be chosen for the finals. The elocution and the extempore competitions will be held on the 26th of September. The finals of the spelling competition will be held on the 27th of September.
The winner of the spelling competition will get prize money of RS 50,000, the runners up will get RS 30,000, the person in third place will get RS 15,000 and the fourth placed contestant will get RS10, 000. The winner, the runners up and the third place of the elocution and extempore competition will get prize money of RS 10,000, RS 5,000 and RS 3,000. These students will also get trophies and certificates along with the cash rewards.
They can apply online or they can get the forms from various stores. The last date of submission of the application for is on the 16th of September. The students who will be taking part in the event will be given free lodging and food from the organizing committee.
The other details of the competition are available on the website. The last time the event was held, there were 138 students from 71 different schools. 59 schools were private and there were 12 government schools as well. The organizers are hoping to make this year’s event bigger than the last time. They have a vision to bring out the competitive nature among the students of the state.
