Education is one of the fundamental rights as recognized by the Constitution of India. The Education scenario in India is changing day-by-day with more children gaining access to their fundamental right. This is a very good prospect for the country. The IT boom has positively affected the education system in India. Intel, the IT giant has created a unique program called the Intel Education Initiative, India - to improve the teaching-learning process in many schools in rural India, with the use of modern teaching aids. The purpose of this initiative is to acquaint young students with subjects such as Maths & Science through IT. They believe in honing critical reasoning, quantitative, and free thinking skills of the students. The program is structured in such a way that students are compelled to use Computers for every learning activity. This interactive way of learning a subject makes the student feel comfortable with a difficult subject and makes them want to learn more. Through this initiative the students become technologically sound.
The programs under this learning initiative cater to students and teachers alike. Teachers who undergo training programs are made aware of the IT enabled teaching aids. They then make use of these aids in classrooms to take learning to a whole new level.
The curriculum followed is inherently interactive. The students are taught certain skills like the use of graphics, word, power point presentations, internet research, etc. Every learning module is converted to projects, which requires the students to make use of the technological skills learnt. Most of the times they are team based activities to highlight the importance of team-work. The technology centered projects helps students to address their own community needs and in turn makes them responsible human beings. The projects are challenging, which helps students to learn new things constantly, picking up critical thinking skills. Another important aspect of the project is to present their work to the local people, explaining what they have done in a simple manner. The students are made aware of the immense potential of the computer in today’s world and its applications. They use some of the advanced software technologies to work on complex projects. In order to facilitate all this, the students have the backing of some of the most experienced teachers, who help students to achieve outstanding results. This is certainly paving the path for a vibrant India!
