IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and is one of the most popular official exams to study in abroad where English is very important. The IELTS measures your English proficiency level in four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.


Listening

It's to check level of concentration. Always read the instructions carefully. Here an audio will be played or a conversation will take place. You have to be attentive meanwhile & listen carefully. Just after the audio stops, you will be asked few questions related to that conversation.


Reading

Be careful with your time. You have to Read from a variety of sources such as books, newspapers & magazines. You will be given 4-5 passages to read. Be careful about singulars & plurals, spellings. Use perfect accent & proper pronunciation of the words.


Writing

Avoid repetition of words.  You have to write an essay including the diagrams, charts, tables & with proper grammar. This section carries 60mins to get completed. Do not exceed time limit. Use more phrases add on to your written material.


Speaking

This section is to check your ability to communicate effectively and not just your grammatical accuracy. Be confident while speaking.  Focus on vocabulary.  Firstly you are being asked about yourself, then you have to answer few questions & at last there will be a group discussion on a topic given. You have to participate actively throughout the discussion.

Generally IELTS exam is of around 3hours. The exam score has a band scale from 1 to 9. Here 1 means "the lowest" & 9 means "the highest".
