Subhashini Ali a prominent face in the Communist party of India spoke about the education system in India. She said about the flaws in the education system of the country. The rising cost of education and the lack of proper infrastructure have led to a lot of backwardness in the Indian education system in recent times. Not just that, there has also been a lot of differentiation between the rural and urban places. The urban students are entitled to better facilities compared to rural students. There is a lot of flaw in the employment system of the country as well.
Rural problems:
According to Subhashini Ali the education system must focus on the rural areas and look to provide good quality education for them. She feels that the girls in rural areas are not entitled to higher education. It is true that most of the girls in the rural areas are forced to leave school after they complete their primary education. They must be encouraged to go and complete their education at least up to the graduation level. This way they will be more involved in the system and can have a better life.
The rural mentality:
The mentality of the rural people needs to be changed at first. Even if they encourage their boys to get educated they never encourage the girls for education. The number of girl children that leave school in between the age of 11 to 14 is very high in India. This is because the people think that the girls should get married at that age. They are married at a very young age. For the rural people education is not their first propriety, their first and most important priority is to get married.
Higher education:
Higher education in India is a big problem. Only 19% of the total population of the country go ahead to complete their graduation and there after the number falls even further. This is not acceptable. The rural people do not send their children to the cities to study because they think that the cities are not safe enough. Moreover the education cost is constantly on the rise in recent times. This has forced the people of the country to opt out of education due to lack of financial stability. Only the financially stable people get a chance to complete their higher education.
Unemployment:
The amount of skilled jobs in the country is very less. Overall the country does not have enough job opportunities to support the growing population. This has a direct impact on people not getting educated. 9.4% graduates are unemployed and over 10% post graduated are unemployed in the country. Hence people prefer to save the money of educating the children and invest it somewhere else. Unless the employment system of the country is improved then we cannot look forward to a complete education that will provide good quality education to the children to help the country for a better future.
