The minister of Science and Technology for the state of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Abhishek Mishra is also a part of the Alumni of Cambridge University. He spoke at an interview recently stating that the youth of the country need to come forward to take matters of education in their own hand. They should come up and take the responsibility of taking education at a higher level to greater quality.
He said that the youth should come by themselves. They should not be forced by the situation around them. They should take the responsibility with willingness. He was very upset about the sad situation of the current education system in the country. The situation is not good and needs to be dealt with smartly.
He said that the education system of the country is a vast concept. However the concept has been divided into segments like primary, secondary, higher secondary and higher education. He feels that some of these segments in education are certainly helping the people to perform better. According to him some segments still need to improve a lot in order to make the education system in the country better.
The major problems that the country is facing at the moment are of poor infrastructure and low teaching staff. These are major problems. Even if the infrastructure problems can be solved with the allocation of funds and putting more money into work the teaching staff problem needs to be taken care of.
It is not every day that you will find a good teacher. To have better teachers the system needs to concentrate more on getting quality of teaching across the country. The teaching techniques need to be changed. The teachers need to be put through better training methods to ensure that they are more qualified. The qualification levels of the teachers need to be addressed on a constant basis to ensure better teaching.
Some of the unwanted colleges have been shut down recently in order to make sure that there is no useless institution that provides low quality education. The top class institutes like IIM and IIT need to be increased across the country so that they can provide chances to more students in recent times. Not only that the research facilities need to be improved to give Indian students a fair chance to compete at the global level.
The students need more exposure to practical knowledge rather than just theory. He expressed concern to see that no Indian institution made it to the top 200 institutions in the world. The government needs to look at the bigger picture in order to improve education standards.
He believes that good students will make good teachers. It is important that the teachers get what they deserve only then this noble profession will attract the smartest brains in the country. Employment opportunities must be increased to initiate the people to take higher education more seriously. The best and most talented students in the country must be encouraged to do more research in the country.
