The main accrediting bodies of Indian Universities are the National Board of Accreditation or NBA. This accreditation policy is compulsory for all higher education institutions.  The validity of the degree also depends on the accreditation obtained from the school. The main objective of these governing bodies is to accredit the institutions based on their capability.

There are two autonomous accreditation bodies in India they are National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and National Board of Accreditation or NBA. Both these accreditation bodies are working under University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) respectively.

Need of Accreditation:

The National Board of Accreditation has been effectual as an autonomous body since the year 2010. It has been made very clear in the regulations that any university that does not follow this policy is entitled to get derecognized. It has been recorded that about 1/5th of the colleges in India are accredited. Indian Universities have been considered as the second dwelling for many foreign students to pursue their higher education. Unfortunately, many of these universities have not been accredited and the degree provided by these universities has no value in the outside world. And the consequence of this is that about 70% of the students passing out of these colleges are unemployed. This raises the question on the quality of education in the minds of people and the community.

Objectives of Accreditation:

The main objective of the accreditation is for assurance of quality and relevant education both in professional and technical disciplines. These disciplines include engineering, technology, management, architecture, pharmacy and hospitality. New parameters and criteria have been set up these days for NBA accreditation that are mainly oriented to evaluate the result of the curriculum.

These days many students prefer to continue their PhD programs online. There are many institutions all over India that provide distance education programs. But before taking admission in these courses it is very necessary to check its NAAC accreditation. This provides information about the university and its validity. These factors are very important as they save a lot of time and money.

Knowledge is a great investment and pursuing education in the best university is of great significance. India has been regarded as the apt destination for a lot of reasons like quality of education, pricing structure of courses, culture rich environment and inspiring infra structure. There are many universities that have been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade A.  These universities are well known to embraces modern technology and create an encouraging atmosphere for the students to manifest their potential.

Benefits of Accreditation:

The accreditation process is a little lengthy and time consuming but, if not done creates a negative effect on the quality of education. This certification given by the National Board of Accreditation is valid for five years for colleges like medical institutions and for three years for other educational institutions. So it is better that the accreditation process of the institution is done much before admission in to these courses to avoid any problems for the students to get a good job in big companies.
