The 10-20 minutes of a job interview can make or break your years of hard work and effort. While a lot of effort goes into preparing for the interview, most of the time is spent planning about the things that you must mention during the interview to leave a good impression. In the process, we neglect the things that we must not say in the interview. While it may look like a minor issue, any unpleasant words in the interview can certainly take away an opportunity of a lifetime. - "How many paid leaves does your company offer?"
Most job interviews end with the interviewer offering you to ask any question regarding the organization. While it is encouraged to ask a sensible question to leave a good departing impression, negative questions regarding the paid leave and sick leave policy present a completely unacceptable image that no employer would be willing to take.
- "Sorry but I can't think of any weakness that I possess!"
8 out of 10 interviews would have a question wherein you would be asked about your weakness. Never project yourself as a perfect human being devoid of any weakness. Be ready to accept the shortcoming you have. And even if you can't think of any weakness, it is advised to prepare an answer to this question beforehand. Also, please avoid answering 'Working too hard is my biggest weakness!' It never works!
- "I hated my last job!"
Only a handful of people really enjoy their jobs. Even if you are not one of them, do not go about bashing your last job or company. Degrading your last company would not leave you in a good position as you were a part of the same company not so long ago. It means that if and when you leave this company, you would have similar views as your last organization.
- "What exactly does your company do?"
While preparing for a job interview, be sure to study thoroughly about the company's background, its operations and any recent updates. A number of job interviews have questions regarding the company's operations or recent news. A thorough study of the names of important people in the company would also help you score good marks in the interview.
- "You are looking amazing!"
An interview would be your first face to face interaction with the representatives of the company. Try to be as professional as possible during this interaction. Passing flirtatious comments with an intention of breaking the ice would not leave a great impression on the interviewer.
- "Can I take this call? It's really important!"
If you can't even complete an interview without attending your call, it is not hard to imagine how you would work at your job! Make sure that your mobile is switched off before you enter the interview room.
