A 13-year-old girl hailing from Uttar Pradesh has made headlines across the state for achieving an improbable feat for her age. Last month she became a science graduate from the Lucknow University and is on track to set up yet another milestone in the next couple of years.

Come 2015 and the nation will get its youngest ever post graduate as she completes MSc in Microbiology from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU). Currently the child prodigy is pursuing the course in the said university which will be complete by the next two years to help her achieve the feat.

In order to help Sushma achieve the feat and as a sign of honour for her talent, the university has cleared all the hurdles in her path to pursue the course. This benevolent gesture by the university’s academic council will help Sushma’s dream to become a reality and pave way for her to create a new record in her name.

On her way to achieving the nation’s youngest graduate status, Sushma broke her own brother Shailendra’s record who was earlier considered to be the nation’s youngest computer science graduate at the age of 14 years. He completed his BCA in 2007 when Sushma was aged a mere 7 years. Shailendra currently pursues MBA from a reputed institute in Bangalore.

Sushma was born in the year 2000 and according to all she had always been a child prodigy since then. Sushma is the daughter of a daily waging labourer and a completely illiterate mother who had to join all ends to keep their family going. According to them the girl always had the blessings of Goddess Saraswati by whose blessings she has been brilliant and exceptionally meritorious throughout her childhood.

Her parents say that she has fought all odds to achieve the status and she alone deserves the sole credit of the feat. They feel that poverty and hunger could not deter their zealous daughter from realizing her dream. The rest according to them was possible due to the blessings of God.

Interestingly, Sushma already holds the record of being India’s youngest ever matriculate who achieved the feat at the tender age of just 7 years. This astonishing feat has already found its place in the Limca Book of Records. She passed the Uttar Pradesh intermediate examinations in the year 2010 and also appeared in UP Combined Pre-medical Test 2010 which sadly she could not clear. In the ensuing 3 years she completed her graduation with élan and is now set to pursue her postgraduate course.

“Putting in effort to secure good marks is nothing new as one has to study well in order to get success. It is only the syllabus and subjects that change at each level while the rest stays the same,” says Sushma when enquired about the difficulties surrounding her education.

“I don’t feel shy anymore while sitting beside much older people in the classes. I am habituated with such situations,” said Sushma with a smile when asked about feeling shy in the class due to her age.
