Campus
TUM’s academic faculties
are divided amongst three campuses in the greater Munich area. The Main Campus
in central Munich houses the faculties of Architecture, Medicine, Electrical
Engineering and Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Surveying,
Economics, Social and Sports Sciences. A second large campus is located in
Garching, about 10 km north of Munich. Garching is home to the faculties
of Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, as
well as the Garching research reactor. Over the years, several research
institutes, including the Max-Planck Society, the Bavarian Academy of Science
and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich have joined TUM in Garching.
The third TUM campus is located 35 km north of Munich in Weihenstephan,
Freising, and is home to the faculties of Biology, Agricultural Science and
Horticulture, Forestry and Resource Management, Brewing and Food Technology,
Nutrition, and Landscape Planning and Landscape Architecture.

Student Facilities
Accommodation
Student halls of residence
Student halls of residence usually offer affordable accommodation for students. The Munich Student Union runs most of these halls of residence, with over 10,000 rooms available. Places at these halls are highly sought-after, with long waiting lists – so students are advised to apply early.
Short Term Accommodation
If you’re only staying for a short time – attending a conference, or while looking for longer-term accommodation – there are plenty of hotels and youth hostels available.
Shared appartments
There are many students in Germany, and Munich is no exception, who live in shared accommodation called "Wohngemeinschaften" or "WGs", for short. Each member of the WG has his/her own room, and the bathroom and kitchen are shared with the other tenants.
It is usually possible to find a room or a flat of this description without having to pay an agency fee, and it is the generally the most economical solution for people looking for singles accommodation in Munich.
