Public will now have the freedom to participate in the ranking of educational institutes which government has been doing solely up till now. All colleges among the country will also be ranked and government will be responsible for providing a common rank to the institution.

The procedure was explained by the senior official and he said "all candidate institutions, independent of their discipline or nature (university, engineering institution, law or medical institution) will be given a common overall rank. The parameters have been chosen in such a manner that they remain equally important for all kinds of educational institutions."

He also said, "The format will be designed to ensure that the diversity of disciplines and their separate needs or characters are suitably taken care of.''

Public participation

It will be mandatory for all the institutions to publish their relevant data on their website such as:

"¢Number of teachers

"¢Infrastructure

"¢Students and other relevant data

The general public and other stakeholders will then view the data and submit their feedback to National Accreditation Bureau under the HRD ministry in case of any discrepancy.

HRD ministry said "The colleges all over the country will also be ranked and the government will award a common overall rank to the institution irrespective of specialization or branch, for the year 2017. Over 3,500 top ranking higher educational institutions are under consideration for the ranking."
